SATURN proposal 작성

올해 SATURN에서 발표한 경험을 바탕으로 어떻게 준비했는지에 대해 간략히 소개하고자 합니다. SATURN에 발표를 마친 후의 SATURN측에서 관심을 가질 만한 proposal을 잘 작성한다면, 얼마든지 발표하는 데 문제가 없다른 것을 알았습니다. 즉, proposal이 SATURN 발표 여부를 결정짓는 처음이자 끝이었습니다. 저의 경우는 30분짜리 프리젠테이션 스타일의 발표를 진행했습니다. 약 25분간의 발표와 5분정도의 질의 응답 시간을 갖는 형식이었습니다.

SATURN측에서는 proposal 검토로 발표 여부를 결정짓고 최종 발표 자료는 행사 약 10일정도 전에 제출해 줄 것을 요청했습니다. 하지만, 발표자가 원할 경우 얼마든지 발표 직전까지 변경이 가능합니다. 10일정도 미리 제출을 요청하는 이유는 발표장소의 컴퓨터에 파일을 모두 올려놓고 준비하기 위해서라고 합니다만, 자신의 컴퓨터로도 얼마든지 발표가 가능합니다.

Proposal을 어떻게 작성해야 하는지 처음에는 잘 몰랐기 때문에, academic paper proposal과 같은 검색어로 웹을 검색했던 것 같습니다. 그 틀에 맞춰 작성하고 있다가 SATURN 측에 리뷰내지 도움을 요청해봤더니 SATURN 블로그에 올라와 있는 proposal 작성 팁을 알려줘서 참고해서 내용을 채워나갔습니다.

1. SATURN의 Call for Submission 페이지

위 페이지에서는 아래와 같이 어떤 내용들이 proposal에 들어있어야 하는지에 대한 정보들이 나와 있습니다.

- Title for your proposed session

- Abstract (250 words or less): think "elevator pitch"

- Session theme: technology, methods and tools, or leadership and business

- Session type: experience-report presentation, participatory session, or tutorial

- Session mechanics: How will the session be conducted? Include information such as an outline, timing, and    description of activities (for participatory sessions) of no more than 700 words.

- Learning outcomes: What will attendees learn and be able to apply with their teams after the conference?

- Target audience and assumed knowledge of the audience

- Names and bios for all speakers. Bios should be 100 words or fewer.

- Has this content been presented before? Please list. For experience-report presentations, originality of content is preferred but not essential. Prior presentation of participatory sessions and tutorials, which demonstrates some maturity of the material, is preferred.

- Speaking experience: Have you presented at previous conferences? Please describe.

앞으로 SATURN이 어느 정도 규모의 행사로 커 나갈지 예상할 수 없습니다만, 자신의 발표 내용만 proposal로 잘 작성한다면 프리젠테이션이 완벽하게 만들어지지 않은 상황에서도 SATURN에서 발표할 수 있는 기회를 부여 받을 수 있습니다. 또한, 충분히 일찍 proposal을 작성할 수 있다면, SATURN측으로부터 미리 피드백을 받아 제출할 수 있는 제도도 운영하고 있습니다.

이렇게 제출하면 정해진 일정에 따라 SATURN측의 피드백과 함께 발표 여부가 통보되고, 발표자에게는 할인 등록할 수 있는 코드도 전달됩니다.
